Hello!
I am new in this chat. I am trying to plan my journey from Switzerland via Canada to Cuba without flying. I am travelling by ferry from Denmark to Iceland and by freighter to Canada. I assume the most difficult part of my jouney is to get from Florida to Cuba. Are there possibilities to hire a sailor? It would be great to cruise by sailing.
Thanks for any answer!

I'm sure you could find someone out of the Bahamas that would take you to Cuba, of course it won't be an american flagged vessel.  There are no ferries or regular boat service from bahamas to cuba, although there has been some talk, nothing exists as of yet.  Also if you don't want to fly (and trust me I cannot blame you there) you are going to have to come up with some sort of private charter from Florida to Bahamas, all of the ferry services shutdown, again there has been some rumors that someone was trying to get one going again, but honestly in this economic climate I find that unlikely.

There are a few marine papers that have ads for people looking for crew, i would start with ones based in florida, I'll try to dig some up that is prolly going to be your best bet.  If you can find a Canadian that is going to the bahamas that would be idea.

New to chat also I am an american that also lives in the Bahamas.  I know what you mean about those damn airplanes, you can't jump off and swim home.  I crashed big time 2 years ago preventing my world cruise.  Currently I am putting a trip to bring my 34' Proaa Cat from Miami to Abaco, Bahamas.  When you get to the Bahamas or Grand Cayman any Local citizen can fly you their cheap; as long as no U.S. Citizens are aboard. Your passport is from Switzerland?  I am leaving very soon with my captain to make the passage.  Let me know if this time table works for you.  Try to not get your passport stamped in Cuba.  American government doesn't like and make give you a hassle.  The boat will be in Abaco for a while after then friend from Spain will sail it to Domican Republic.  Currently, I am in Michigan and will be making voyage before hurricane season. Around 15hr Miami-abaco in worst conditions.   Ciao
