Although it's been a long time, my husband and I cruised with our daughter for 5 years.  I home taught her using the Calvert School.  I'm not a teacher and knew nothing about teaching so I expected it to be a real challenge.  Calvert took all the anxiety out of the courses as their instructions were explicit and excellent.  Overall, cruising and being home taught was a great experience for Shannon and she entered land based high school well ahead of her peers.  Cruising teaches kids to not only be self sufficient, but they naturally become more responsible and reliable.  Plus, it gives them and you a great sense of family.  I simply don't know a cruising kid who's not terrific.

There's too much on this subject to write in one posting, but you can visit our website to learn more.  Bill and I have written about our cruising experiences and Shannon wrote/published an article at age 12 for a magazine.  She's also put a posting on our site about her cruising childhood from an adult's point of view (she's 34 with children of her own now).

Maybe our situation is not the same as yours but it is so close that I thought to send you a message. Maybe you could provide some insight into our journey and we could possibly provide something for you. we also have a website. It is listed below.

This is a post we recently made:

3rd grade teacher Kathryn Sawdon and designer John Dean are working towards a unique and wonderful dream. Visit there website to see if they can help you help them. They are searching for the perfect family to crew for or provide house sitting services, or something equally accommodating.

Please help us make it happen if you can. Send our petition on, pass the word.

With thanks and regards,
Kathryn Sawdon and John Dean
