Hey! Jay aboard Rainbow Connection here.  I am in Royal Island, Eluthra and found out some skinny on the island.  It has been bought by some big development company, and they have bought the hole island.  They have started to build a resort on the west end of the island and also clearing land for lots and golf corse. Last year they had Guard dogs on the island and you were not allowed to land anywhere on Royal. That has now changed. All Building has stopped and the development construction has pulled out, and taking all the heavy equipment with them. They have cut down a lot of trees and moved massive amounts of, what little there is of the topsoil into piles. But the old ruins of the plantation home is still here. You are allowed to go ashore at the dock in front of the ruins and walk East along the road they have built.  I am Glad to see this large development has been put on hold, and most of all another golf corse build so close to the water won't be dumping fertilizers and chemicals on the reef.  A Bit of good news and it makes Royal Island still a great stopping place for cruisers transiting between Abacos and Eluthra or Exuma with her All Weather Harbour and if you anchor to the west of the harbour you can also get internet from the construction site trailers.  Beware, there are still mooring blocks on the bottom!  I hope this has shed some light on the state of Royal Island.     Laterz _/)

Ya, The hole Island is torn up. ON the very east end they are building a damn gold corse. it's really bad, But it has all been stopped! You can thank the economy for that one.  But I will say that even though the island is really torn up, it wont take very long before it is reclaimed my nature.

I'm really sorry to see how badly Royal Island is looking javascript:void(0);... but you're right.  It won't take long for nature to take everything back again.  When we were there... many many years ago, there was a park ranger or some such thing in a small building to the right of the anchorage.  Is that now gone?
